The Slovak Philharmonic Friends Club

The Slovak Philharmonic Friends Club (KPSF) has become a regular meeting-place for those whose common love is music in its broadest possible sense. The members of the club are not only grateful concertgoers of our foremost musical institute, the Slovak Philharmonic, but enthusistic followers of musical events at home and abroad. Meetings with leading representatives of Slovak musical life are looked forward to with great excitement. In meetings with composers, performers, conductors and musical theorists, the members of the Club have the exceptional opportunity to discover interesting information about their personal and professional lives that cannot be found in any publications or concert programs. Their opinions of musical works, their creation and subsequent performance of these works which provoke unforgettable musical experiences, are stimulating and thought-provoking, enriching the knowledge of the Club members.

The Club has organised many interesting tours: Club members have twice had the opportunity to visit places in neighbouring Austria where the most prominent representatives of Classicism, Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, lived and created. Two other tours were directed in Slovakia: in Pezinok Club members attended a remarkable concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Slovak Radio, under the leadership of Prof. Ľudovít Rajter on the occasion of his 90th birthday. The trip to Kremnica, where the virtuoso violinist Peter Michalica invited members of the Club into his historic home and where he performed a short recital in a hall with a unique diamond arch, was an unforgettable experience.

A familiar tradition at the end of the calendar year is a pre-Christmas meeting of the KPSF with a special musical and social program. An exceptional speciality of this meeting is a large table filled with Christmas cakes and other delicacies prepared by the Club members. It is the KPSF committeesĘ endeavour to prepare an interesting and valuable program also in the coming concert season.. RNDr. Vavrinec
