Petra Torkošová graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (B. Juhaňáková) and she has been the conductor of the mixed choir Technik STU since 2013. She has premiered works by many Slovak composers (Zavarský, Tóth, Borzík, Bernáth, Sloboda, Rezník, Fulmek, Krchová, Valenta, Hochel), from which some have established a new level of sound experiments and have presented work with sound in space. She has collaborated on many international projects in Luxemburg, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, in Hamburg and Israel, where she has conducted a series of concerts. She has studied a wide repertory; in addition to a cappella pieces she has recently conducted vocal-instrumental compositions, e.g. Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, requiems by a number of composers (W. A. Mozart, G. Fauré, M. Duruflé, J. Brahms). She has collaborated with several orchestras: Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Bratislava, Hilaris Chamber Orchestra, Slovak Chamber Orchestra Bratislava and chamber ensemble Mucha Quartet.
Petra has recorded a CD Folk Variations with the Technik STU chorus, featuring various arrangements of folk songs for a cappella choir. As an external member of the Wiener Singakademie she has had the opportunity to sing at several concerts in Mahler’s Symphonies No. 2 and No. 3 and E. Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius in cooperation with the conductor Teodor Currentzis. She has appeared in a monodrama Tiso in the Aréna Theatre. She teaches at the Academy of Performing Arts as a member of the Department of Composition and Conducting. She is an ardent teacher, dedicated to her students, she has founded a female school chorus Solfeggio, which was the overall winner at the international competition Bratislava Choir & Orchestra Festival. Joined by her students she has prepared podcasts in the series Variations – A Slightly Different Take on Music, presenting leading personalities of musical life (P. Valentovič, Ľ. Čekovská, J. Grečnár, P. Lipa). International Conductors’ Master Classes are organized annually under her supervision. She has collaborated on various projects not only with the Technik chorus, but also other choirs like Cantus, Voci Allegre, Lúčnica, Ad Una Corda and Slovak Teachers’ Choir. In collaboration with the Slovak National Theatre she has prepared choral numbers for the play Life of Galileo (premiered in April 2026). She currently holds the position of the choirmaster of the Slovak Philharmonic Choir.
