With his unmistakable artistic signature, Daniel Raiskin has become one of the most recognized conductors of his generation and had developed a broad repertoire beyond the mainstream in his strikingly conceived programs. A son of a prominent musicologist, Daniel Raiskin grew up in St. Petersburg. He attended the celebrated conservatory in his native city and continued his studies in Amsterdam and Freiburg. First focusing on viola, he was inspired to take up the baton as a result of an encounter with the distinguished teacher Lev Savich. In addition, he also took classes with Maestri such as M. Jansons, N. Jär-vi, M. Horvat, W. Nelson und J. Panula.

Daniel Raiskin was the the Chief Conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra in Bratislava during five seasons between 2020 and 2025. He is Music Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra since August 2018 and Principal Guest Conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra from season 2017/18. From season 2026-27 Daniel Raiskin will assume the position of Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Janaček Philharmonic Orchestra and will serve until then as orchestra’s designated Chief Conductor. Raiskin was Chief Conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie (2005-2016) and of the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra (2008-2015), and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (season 2017/18).

Daniel Raiskin is also relentlessly committed to sharing his knowledge and passion with young musicians around the world. He devotes his time regularly to working with young conductors and with youth orchestras in a.o. Canada, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Netherlands, Poland and South Africa. Among the major soloists with whom he has appeared are E. Ax, R. Buchbinder, C. Crozman, X. de Maistre, R. Fleming, N. Freire, M. Fröst, A. Gerhardt, V. Gluzman, N. Gutman, D. Hope, K. Kriikku, S. Lamsma, L. Lang, D. Lazić, F. Leleux, J. Lisiecki, A. Lubimov, T. Masurenko, A. Mayer, D. Müller-Schott, O. Mustonen, J. Rachlin, B. Schmid, J. Steckel, A. Vinnit-skaya, L. Vondráček and A. Volodin.

Recent recordings include Mahler Symphony No. 3 and Shostakovich Symphony No. 4 for the label AVI, both to great critical acclaim. His recording of cello concertos by E. W. Korngold, E. Bloch and B. Goldschmidt with J. Steckel for the label AVI received an Echo Klassik Award in 2012. Other recent recording projects include a L. Glass Complete Symphonic cycle and A. Khachaturian Complete Concertos and Rhapsodies cycle, both with the label CPO, Lutosławski’s vocal-instrumental works with the label Dux and a recording off A. Tansman’s Isaie le Prophète and Psaumes for the label World Premiere Recordings. Together with the Slovak Philharmonic, he has recorded the works of P. I. Tchaikovsky and J. L. Bella. Since 2024, he has collaborated with CPO, recording the complete set of symphonies composed by F. Schmidt.

Studied at the Žilina Conservatory (M. Seidl) and at the Janáček Music Academy in Brno (E. Skoták). In 2006 he received the Leoš Janáček Award for his music directorship of the chamber version of Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen at the Chamber Opera of the Janáček Music Academy. As part of the festival “Janáček Brno 2008“, he conducted the original version of Janáček’s original 1904 version of Jenůfa.

He works at the National Theatre Brno and Slovak National Theatre Bratislava, where he has conducted Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, The Queen of Spades, Verdi’s Macbeth, Il Vespri Siciliani, Don Carlos, Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen, Katya Kabanova, Jenůfa, The Makropulos Case, Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Il Tabarro, Turandot, Tosca, Nedbal’s Polenblut, Rossini’s La scala di seta, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, R. Strauss’s Salome, Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, Mozart’s Don Giovanni Così Fan Tutte, Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, Donizetti’s Elisir D’amore, Maria di Rohan, Dvořák’s Rusalka, Saint-Saëns Samson and Dalila.

He has also conducted at other opera houses, for example in the Greek National Op-era in Athens (The Cunning Little Vixen, The Macropulos Case, Don Giovanni, La Bohème), Den Jyske Opera Aarhus (Katya Kabanova), Opéra de Rennes, Opéra de Limoges and Opéra de Reims (Jenůfa), National Theatre Prague (Rusalka, Mozart Birthday, Galaconcert on the 100th Anniversaryof the Formation of Czechoslovakia, State Opera Praque, Slovak National Theatre Bratislava, DJKT Plzeň (Cavalleria rusticana), National Theatre Košice (Dia-logues of the Carmelites, Samson and Dalila) and F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec.

Ondrej Olos regularly collaborates with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak Radio Symphonic Orchestra, Slovak State Philharmonic Košice, Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, Prague Chamber Philharmonic and Philharmonic Orchestras in Brno, Olomouc, Zlín and Hradec Králové. He is also a successful and sought-after pianist and chamber musician.
In the upcoming season, his programme includes a production of Die Fledermaus by Strauss in the National Theatre Brno, guest performances in F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (Othello), as well as concerts with the Brno Philharmonic and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc.
