The pair of works by our composers of the older generation which we will hear in the first half of the night featuring the Slovak Chamber Orchestra belongs to the most valuable in the chamber genre of our domestic music. An iconic piece Planctus for strings was written by Ladislav Burlas as an immediate reaction to the invasion of the Warsaw Pact armies to Czecho- slovakia. To this day it is music which reflects the tragic events of August 1968 in a profound and very convincing way. The work is programmed as a tribute to the jubilee of the composer who served as the chairman of the BMF Committee for many years.
Serenade for solo winds, harp and strings was composed by Oto Ferenczy, one of our most erudite music creators, in 1955. As early as during the time of its origination it was a work complying with the criteria of the highest compositional quality. The solo parts will be rendered by the prominent female members of the Slovak Philharmonic.
Händel’s Dettingen Te Deum performed by the Slovak Chamber Orchestra and the Bratislava City Choir will sound as a tribute to the lately deceased longtime choirmaster of this choral ensemble Ladislav Holásek.
